Saw palmetto is a small palm plant named Serenoa Repens which grows a maximum 2 to 3 meters or 7 to 10 feet in height. It grows in the coastal plain of South Carolina and Southeastern Louisiana. It can be found in moist forests, pine flatwoods and wetlands.Saw palmetto is an extract of Serenoa Repens which is derived from the deep purple berries of Serenoa Repens. Ripe fruit of saw palmetto is used to make medicine.
It is also known by other names such as American Dwarf Palm Tree, Baies Du Chou Palmiste, Palmier Scie Sabal, Baies Du Palmier Scie, Chou Palmiste, Ju-Zhong, Palma Enana American, Sabal Fructus, Palmier de Floride, Cabbage Palm, Palmier Nain Americain and Sabal Serrulata.
